Counting MPs during the game
What’s the score? Can I call already?

  1. (fallen wizard only) Figure out how many points each card currently gives you, based on your special abilities and your stage resources.
  2. Add the points from all cards together, except (for non-Balrog players) those from companies currently at an under-deeps site.
  3. Don’t forget to count any cards that give negative MPs (mainly dead, non-wizard, key characters).
  4. Substract the marshalling points for characters that are currently imprisoned or that died imprisoned. (Yes, if you have let Frodo die in prison he costs you a 2 MP penalty twice.)
  5. Substract 5 MP if your avatar has died.
  6. Round up to 0 MPs if needed.

Counting MPs during the council (or whatever it’s called for your alignment)
No need to get confused about all possible modifications

  1. (fallen wizard only) Figure out how many points each card currently gives you, based on your special abilities and your stage resources.
  2. Add the points from all cards together (including those from companies currently at an under-deeps site) sorted out into the following six categories: characters, items, factions, allies, kill, and miscellaneous. Note that the card template is slightly different for each category in the corner where the MP-value is printed.
  3. Don’t forget to count any cards that give negative MPs, which are mainly dead, non-wizard, key characters. Note that such dead characters give negative MPs in their own category, characters.
  4. Substract the marshalling points for characters that are currently imprisoned or that died imprisoned. These point are taken from their own category, characters, as well. (Yes, if you have let Frodo die imprisoned he costs you a 2 MP penalty twice.)
  5. If your opponent has 0 (or less) points in any of the point categories characters, items, factions, and / or allies, double your points in that category.
  6. Add all six categories together. Make sure no one category contributes over half the total. If this would be the case, just add the other five together and double that.
  7. Substract 5 MPs if your avatar died.
  8. Substract 1 MP for each unique marshalling point card you have in play that your opponent now reveals from his hand.
  9. Round up to 0 MPs if needed.

These lists are numbered for a reason: you start at 1 and work your way down, no exceptions.
